Bluebirds and Morning Glory WPress

Miriam’s Art is pleased to release Bluebirds and Morning Glories pastel painting.  She was calm and only stressed by computer work for most of this painting.  It was a relief to be calm and painting quietly.

The blue hue of the sky added to the blue of the morning glories pulls the eye to the middle ground of the painting where two bluebirds sit on their perch on two fence posts.  The overall blue of the painting would tend towards melancholy but blue is my favorite color.  I just loved the blue of the morning glories combined with the blue of the bluebirds.  The middle ground is dominated by the bluebirds.  The background is the blue sky and the foreground is the morning glories themselves.  This painting is a major shift from my usual work in that I will be painting more backgrounds rather than individual birds or animals.  I am progressing to landscapes as well.  I am also more interested in the eyes of animals now so I will be painting closeups of animal eyes.

The stress I had during the painting of this painting was computer related.  My demons were pushed back by the urgency to get my new website up and running.  Painting was still a relief though.  I put away all my troubles and concentrated on the painting.  I am now in the process of identifying my thoughts and trying to categorize them.  Then I will use counteractive statements to make my thoughts more positive.  I am also reading a new book about negative thoughts.  I am working actively on dealing with my anxiety.

The background was the biggest challenge of this painting.  I didn’t want the blue of the sky to be a backdrop for the blue of the bluebirds.  That would have been too much blue.  So I left some of the paper without any pastel on it.  The grey worked out quite well but is a bit unrealistic.  As I said above a major change in my painting is taking place.  I am more concentrated on background now.  I am even interested in sea scapes, water and clouds.

This painting is available for purchase as usual.  Please see the 2017 Price List above and email me at  It is a 12×18″ pastel painting.
